7 min readhumans exist on a continuum of capability, where what counts as "basic" constantly evolves. the baseline moves upward. what was once advanced becomes foundational. what was once valuable becomes assumed. this has happened repeatedly throughout history, but always with time to adjust. now the baseline is moving faster than we can stabilize around it. the pattern remains the same, but the pace has fundamentally changed. perhaps the only sustainable skill is the capacity to continuously redefine your own baseline.
